PALS Full Provider Course

The PALS Provider Course is designed to provide participants with the information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, strategies to prevent arrest, and the cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize those in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.

This 2 day full provider course covers the foundations of diagnosis and rapid treatment of various cardiac and neurological emergencies encountered in the prehospital and clinical settings.

The course covers case studies outlined by the emergency cardiac care guidelines of the American Heart Association. The class consists of participative lecture as well as informative and interactive didactic sessions. Courses and instructors are certified by the American Heart Association.
PALS Renewal Course The AHA recommends that all PALS providers renew their skills and knowledge at least once every 2 years. Participants attend summary lectures, participate in interactive evaluation stations, and complete a written examination that evaluates familiarity with knowledge and skills gained in the PALS Provider Course. Practice time is included with each course. In order to participate, the card must be current at the time of the renewal course.

Participants are required to have a current CPR card. The following course cards are accepted: American Heart Association - Healthcare Provider (HCP) or American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

If you have not previously attended an PALS class, you must attend the complete provider class.  You MUST also have a good knowledge of EKG interpretation.  Students should not attend PALS courses if they cannot identify EKG rhythms.

Because of the changes and requirements for the American Heart Association, all students MUST:

1. Purchase a textbook. You can order online directly from Channing-Bette.com, Laerdal.com,  or  Worldpoint-ECC.com.  You can also call them directly from the phone numbers provided at their websites. Ask for the PALS Professional Provider Manual with CD. A medical school bookstore such as Loma Linda should have them.
2.
Read the book and view the CD.
3.
Complete the pre test on the CD, print out the results and bring the book and printout to class.
